"The film describes both the situation at home and that at the workplace as well as the conflicts that appear between the two. A BONUS FOR IRENE was meant as a critique of labor movies as they were made at the dffb at that time, movies that only focused on the situation at the workplace and not on the situation of women. It is the first film that includes the discussion of the women's movement on the conncetion between the private and the public space." (Helke Sander)
