Jean-Pierre Levaray has worked in a chemical factory near Rouen since 1973. In 2002 he wrote about his experience in the book "Damn Factory" ("Putain d'usine").

This 52 minute documentary follows J.P. Levaray, who sees himself as " a writing worker but not as a writer", having discussions with his colleagues and considering the role of work in our lives – and how this relationship has changed over the last 30 years.

In this clip in particular we see an eye-opening meeting between J.P. Levaray and kids from a technical college in which the worker tells them about his book and asks the young people to write about their expectations and hopes with an eye to their future working life.

The factory in Rouen is classified as exactly as safe as the chemical factory AZF in Toulouse, where a massive explosion happened in 2001, in which 31 people were left dead. As in Toulouse, in April 2013 the West Fertilizer Company exploded in a small town in Texas and led to the deaths of at least 14 people.
