The workers of the sugar factory Haft Tappeh have been striking for three weeks to get their due wages. They have not been paid in four months. Their protest has received the support of other factory workers as well as teachers and students, and attracted some attention of the media in Iran. But also repression: more than a dozen arrests of workers have been reported until now, and some of those workers are still currently detained.

The workers and their supporters demonstrated on the 19th of November in the western city of Shush, demanding their due wage and the release of the detained workers.

The struggle of the Haft Tappeh workers is not an isolated case in Iran: it is part of a larger wave of protests over working conditions and wage arrears that has been taking place in the country during the recent months.
