"Inshallah (“God willing”) is more than just a phrase among asylum seekers trying to reach the EU across the Croatian-Bosnian border. It reveals the precarious circumstances of their lives, which hang by the thread of fate.
Here, at the end of the Balkan Route, the EU keeps its doors shut tightly: many who cross the border are beaten up by the Croatian police, robbed of their money, mobile phones and shoes and illegally deported to Bosnia. They remain stuck there for months — living in informal shelters or abandoned buildings — waiting for the chance to finally make it. These attempts are cynically called the game: if you win, you are in the EU; if you lose, you go back to the start again.
In this self-produced documentary, filmed by two activists in Bosnia, women and men who feel the immediate consequences of this border policy have their say. Six short stories in which they show what happens every day at the EU's borders: illegal deportations, police brutality, desperation, fear, but also tenacity and daring to strive for a better life."
