Hong Kong, December 15, 2005. During the WTO-conference Western journalists are all confronted with the problem of labour migration. One location is the sleeping quarters of migrants in Kowloon. The speaker of Migrante International, Coni Regalado, gives a report. She came over from the Philippines and has worked in Hong Kong as a domestic helper for 13 years. In Hong Kong, migrants often get less than the monthly minimum wage, about 3,000 HK-Dollar (at that time about 300 Euros). For Coni Regalado the WTO is not an institution that cares about the wellbeing of workers. Migrante International supports migrants who organize as workers.
