April 4th, 2009 - After car parts manufacturer Visteon announced 600 job cuts in the Belfast, Basildon and Enfield/London plants, workers occupied the plant in Enfield. Visteon had not promised any compensation, but simply asked the workers to leave. Ex-Colleagues visit the plant and bring food for the activists. These occupations are the first "offensive" collective reactions to the crisis. The squatters hope for solidarity on the part of GM workers in Vauxhall, and they see their struggle as part of a more general resistance against a nationwide practice of making workers pay for the crisis.
