On April 7, 2013, most of the roughly 5,000 train drivers in Egypt went on strike. Most of the train traffic came to a halt so that the other railway workers could not work, either. The demands of the strikers: bonus payments according to worked hours and overtime, payments for kilometers driven, eight paid rest days per month.
After three strike days, the muslim brotherhood government used the army against the striking workers.
