A film by Danièlle Huillet and Jean-Marie Straub about revolutions in France and Egypt. With texts by Friedrich Engels and Mahmoud Hussein.

We see mostly static images of fields in France and Egypt. The images from France are accompanied by an offscreen voice reading a letter by Friedrich Engels, in which he lists the numbers of people that starved in French villages on the eve of the French Revolution. The villages he mentions are shown in the film.

For Egypt, we hear excerpts from Mahmouth Hussein's "Class struggles in Egypt" about how farmers resisted English occupation until the revolution of 1952.

There are German, English, French and Italian versions of this film.
