For the last two years, the laid-off workers of the Metropolis stores in Athens are conducting a hard, exhausting and relentless struggle in order to receive the wages and compensations owed to them by businessman Andreas Kouris, who owns MAD, the mass media music company. Three years after buying out the music chain stores Metropolis, Kouris shut down 13 of them, laid off 180 workers and refused to pay 4.5 months' wages and compensations that amount to more than 600,000 euros to at least half of them.

Facing an employer who, due to the support provided by economic and political allies thinks that he can get rich by sucking the blood of his workers, the workers of Metropolis decided to self-organise and to resist the bosses' sense of impunity. With the solidarity of base unions, workers' and neighborhood assemblies, they have made more than 80 protests, many times outside the glamorous shows that Kouris is organising to increase his profits, while claiming he has no money to pay them.

In March 2014, the laid-off workers of the Metropolis stores demonstrated outside the music contest that would decide on the Greek entry song for Eurovision, a contest organised by the MAD music channel. Until today, they continue their struggle until their last demand is met.
